mesquit grass
   Texas: 1823. Any of a number of grasses growing near mesquite. They are used as forage for animals. The DARE gives a number of plants often called mesquite grass, including grama grass, a velvet grass (including Holcus lanatus), buffalo grass (Buchloe dacty-loides), one of two needlegrasses (Stipa viridula or Aristida purpurea), a galleta (either curly mesquite or Hilaria jamesii), or a muhly grass (including Muhlenbergia porteri).
   Alternate form: mesquit grass.
